PEARL, Miss. - The Jackson State Tigers spilt a doubleheader Friday but won a three-game series this weekend against the Alcorn State Braves when they took the rubber game 5-3 at the Trustmark Park, to improve their SWAC record 8-2. Jerome TYES hit the lone homerun of the day, Cortez COLE had three hits and one run batted in while LeDerek Camper had one hit, two runs batted in and a double. With the series tied 1-1, things did not go well for the Braves in Saturday's final game of the series. With a scoreless first inning, Cole singled Pernell HALLIMAN in to post a 1-0 lead over the Braves in inning two. Tyes hit a homerun in the fifth inning to maintain the Tigers lead 2-0, but in the top of the sixth the Braves drove in three runs to take their first lead of the game, 3-2. The Tigers would answer the call with three runs of their own to reclaim the lead 5-3. Halliman took the save on the mound. Jamaal THELWELL had one hit and a triple and Charles BROWN had one run batted in for the Tigers victory. The Tigers will return to action at home on April 1, at 6:00 p.m. when they take on Southeastern Louisiana. |
