April 10, 2008 Jackson State put on an offensive display Wednesday evening as they recorded 17 hits in a 19-4 win over Grambling State. JSU (22-14) opened the contest with a three-run first inning but Grambling (14-16) promptly responded in the bottom half with RBIs from Brent Smith and Justin Kelly to tie the game at 3-all. After a scoreless second inning, both teams turned into complete opposites from that point as Jackson State exploded offensively with 16 unanswered runs over the next six innings. Grambling didn't return to the scoreboard until the bottom of the ninth after a solo homer by David Simmons. Byron Banks took the loss for Grambling as the lefty dropped to 0-5 on the year. David De La Calle (3-1) picked up the win for JSU on the mound while designated hitter Pernell HALLIMAN led JSU's offensive charge with five RBIs and four hits. |
