Jackson State sweeps Alabama A&M in doubleheader, 11-4 and 14-5

JACKSON, MISS. - The Jackson State Tigers swept the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in a doubleheader victory in the first and second games of a four game series Friday at the JSU Baseball Complex. The Tigers were led by Cortez COLE who ended the night with a total of six runs, five hits and three runs batted in. The Tigers improved to 22-14 overall and Alabama A&M fell to 3-25.

The first game, which was a makeup game from the Alabama A&M series the Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-2 lead by the bottom of the third. The Tigers answered the call by scoring once in the top of the fourth and once in the fifth to tie 4-4. In the top of the sixth the Tigers would add five runs and another two in the seventh to secure their first win of the night.

Pitcher Charles WILLIAMS completed the game by throwing 7.0 innings with nine hits, one walk and eight strikeouts.

In the nightcap, the Tigers scored 14 runs on 14 hits with Braneric HOLMES hitting a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Pernell HALLIMAN recorded a triple while Enrique Quintero,Pernell Halliman and Cole each recorded doubles for the night.

Pitcher Nicholas STEWART picked up the win throwing 7.0 innings with only six hits and six strikeouts.

The Tigers will finish the last two games of the four-game series against the Bulldogs on Saturday, Apr.12 beginning at 1 p.m. at the JSU Baseball Complex.
