JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State baseball team defeated the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 10-5 and 7-4 Saturday evening to complete a four-game sweep of the Bulldogs at the JSU Baseball Complex. Marquise ZACHARY pitched 6.1 innings to pick up the win in the first game. He struck out five batters and allowed nine hits. Mike Bonds suffered the loss for the Bulldogs. LaDerek CAMPER led JSU offensively, going 3-4 with two runs and two runs batted in. Jerome TYES went 2-2 at the plate with a home run and three RBI. Jamaal Thelwell also went 2-2 and scored two runs. JSU never allowed Alabama A&M to take the lead, as the Tigers scored at least one run in each inning. Over the first three innings the Tigers built a 5-0 advantage. The Bulldogs scored their first run in the second inning. In the fourth, the Tigers added two more runs and another in the fifth. Both teams scored two runs in the sixth and the Bulldogs scored two in the seventh. Pernell HALLIMAN got the win in the nightcap, going 6.1 innings while recording 13 strikeouts. Bernard McKinney got the loss for AAMU. Halliman, also produced offensively going 2-3 with a run scored. Enrique QUINTERO and Derek Johnson each got a hit and scored a run. Quintero had one RBI and Johnson recorded two RBI. JSU got on the scoreboard first, with a scored run in the second and four more in the third inning. JSU put the game away in the fourth inning scoring its final two runs of the game. AAMU threatened late, scoring a run in the fifth and three in the seventh. JSU will return to action Tuesday, Apr. 15 when the Tigers host the University of New Orleans at the JSU Baseball Complex. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. |
