JACKSON, Miss. - The ballots have been tallied and the Southwestern Athletic Conference recently announced its 2008 Baseball Pre-Season All-Conference teams and the Jackson State Tigers had three players were selected. Cortez Cole, a sophomore outfielder from Shannon, MS, was named to the All-SWAC first team. Cole had an outstanding freshman year. He was third on the team in batting average (.357), 9th in runs (27), tied for sixth in hits (45), tied for fourth in doubles (8), second in triples (4) and 6th in RBI (31). He was named to the 2007 All-Conference first team and a 2007 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. Nicholas Stewart and LaDerek Camper were named to the second team. Stewart, a Jackson, MS native, won eight games for the Tigers in 2007. He pitched 95.1 innings last season (1st on team) and recorded 57 strikeouts (1st on team). He was also named to the 2007 SWAC All-Tournament Team. Camper, a junior from Jackson, was also named to the 2007 SWAC All-Tournament Team. He finished the 2007 season with a .325 batting avg. (4th on team), 54 runs (3rd on team, 4th in SWAC), and 62 hits (4th on team, 6th in SWAC). Jackson State will open the 2008 season on Feb. 22 when the Tigers to Atlanta, GA to face Georgia State. |
