JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State baseball team will open the 2008 season on the road when the Tigers travel to Atlanta, Ga. to face Georgia State in non-conference action this weekend. Jackson State was selected as the pre-season No. 1 team in Southwestern Athletic Conference polls. Three Tigers were named to the SWAC pre-season All-Conference team. Cortez COLE, Nicholas STEWART, and LaDerek CAMPER were all name to the team. Cole, a sophomore outfielder from Shannon, Miss. was name to the All-SWAC first team. As a freshman he was named to the 2007 All-SWAC first team and a 2007 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. Stewart and Camper were named to the All-Conference second team. Stewart, a pitcher from Jackson, won eight games for JSU, pitched 95.1 innings and recorded 57 strikeouts last season. He was also named to the SWAC All-Tournament Team. Camper, a junior from Jackson finished the 2007 season with a .325 batting avg., 54 runs, and 62 hits. The Tigers and Georgia State will face off Feb. 22-24. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. |
