Feb. 3, 2008 ITTA BENA, Miss. - Despite a game-high 15 points from Darrion Griffin the Jackson State men's basketball team fell 81-53 to the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils in SWAC action Saturday night. From the tip-off, the game appeared to be paced for another classic SWAC battle with the lead going back and forth. JSU held a 31-30 lead with just over three minutes in the first half. Valley then went on a 7-0 run to take a 38-31 lead into halftime. Valley took control in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 43-22. Griffin came off the bench to lead JSU in scoring, going 4-9 from the field and 7-11 from the free throw line. De'Suan Dixon was the only other Tiger to reach double figure scoring with 14 points (career high at JSU). Dixon also grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Five Delta Devils scored in double figures. MVSU was led by Larry Cox's double-double as he turned in 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Chris Watson and Michael Clark had 15 points each, with seven and five rebounds respectively. Stanford Speech had 14 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Carl Lucas added 13 points. JSU will look to get back on track when the Tigers travel to Pine Bluff, Ark. to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Feb. 4. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. |
