JACKSON, Miss. - Jackson State freshman running back, Luther Edwards, was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference newcomer of the week for his outstanding performance against Mississippi Valley State last weekend.

The 5-8, 225 pound native of Yazoo City, MS, finished with 73 yards and two touchdowns in JSU's 29-27 win over the Delta Devils. Edwards had touchdown runs of 10 and 3 yards in the second quarter and was a big part of the Tigers' rushing attack that gained 204 yards on the ground.

This is the second straight week he has received the honor. JSU will be idle this weekend, but will return to action Nov. 8 when the Tigers travel to Montgomery, AL to face the Alabama State Hornets. Kick-off is set for 1 pm.
