Feb. 17, 2008 PRAIRIE VIEW, Tex. - The Jackson State women's basketball team increased its winning streak to three games and in the process handed the Prairie View Lady Panthers their first SWAC loss of the season. JSU defeated Prairie View 70-60 in overtime. With the win Jackson State improves to a 12-10 overall record and a 10-2 SWAC mark. With the loss Prairie View fell to a 15-8, 10-1 record. Heading into the game Prairie View and JSU were ranked one and two in conference play. Erica Trahan finished with her second double-double of the season as she finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds. LaSharee Christian followed with 13 points and nine assists. Erlexis Cooper added 11 points and five rebounds and Carena Easley scored 10 points and pulled eight rebounds. Two Lady Panthers scored in double figures. Candice Thomas scored a team high 14 points and Chari Smith added 10. JSU trailed 27-26 at halftime. In the first half JSU shot 36% from the field and 75% from the line. Prairie View shot 31% from the floor (44% in three pointers) and 20% from the line. In the second half JSU outscored the Lady Panthers 32-31 to make the score 58-58 at the end of regulation. The Lady Tigers dominated in OT, outscoring Prairie View 12-2. Jackson State will return to action Feb. 18 when the Lady Tigers travel to Houston, TX to face Texas Southern in SWAC women's basketball action. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. |
