Lady Tigers finish 3rd at McDonald's Invitational



Tayari Clay finished 1st in the 400 m dash and 2nd in the long jump

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Jackson State women's track and field team captured third place on the final day of the McDonald's Invitational this weekend.

JSU had 16 top 10 finishes during the event. Tayari Clay took first place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.17. Taji Dorsey secured third place with a time of 57.62 and Toniece Williams came in 14th place with a time of 59.75.

Courtney Prentiss came in third place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.44. Dorsey finished fourth (25.63) and Lisa Quinn came in fifth (25.64).

In the 60 meter dash Prentiss and Quinn came in fifth and seventh place respectively with times of 7.81 and 7.89. Williams came in 10th place in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.22. Marlisa Hamlett finished 11th (9.23).

Adrienne Smith, Jemu ZarZar and Jennifer Redman finished 17th, 18th and 19th in the one mile run. Smith had a time of 5.27, ZarZar (5.27) and Redman (5.30).

In the 800 meter run Kimberly Whalen finished ninth with a time of 2:27.11, while Tunisia Milner finished 24th (2:32.61) and LaColony Oliver finished 28th (2:36.32).

In the 3000 meter run ZarZar came in 15th place (11:10.32), Redman finished 17th (11:12.29) and Smith finished 27th (12:16.78).

In the field events JSU also had great success. Clay took second place in the long jump with a distance of 5.95 meters. Amiria Holloman came in ninth place (5.32 meters) and Tamieka Hill finished 17th (5.03 m).

Equondra Netters tied for seventh place in the pole vault with a height of 3.05 m. In the triple jump Holloman finished seventh with a distance of 11.04 m and Hamlett came in ninth place (10.95).

Leadrine White came in sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 15.70 meters. Stephanie Cleave finished 14th (13.47 m), Deshawn Chiles finished 15th (12.61 m) and Danielle Miller finished 19th (11.29 m).

White and Chiles finished 18th and 19th respectively in the shot put with throws of 11.39 m and 10.56 m.

The Lady Tigers 4x400 meter relay team, made up of Quinn, Dorsey, Clay and Hamlett, came in second place.

Jackson State will return to action Feb. 15th when the Lady Tigers travel Houston, TX for the University All-Comers Meet.
