NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Jackson State softball improved to a 5-10 overall record by picking up its first win at the Northwestern State NSU Invitational Saturday morning. The Lady Tigers beat Siena College 5-1. Jessica Villegas picked up the win. In five innings of work she gave up only one hit and one run, while striking out three batters. Breonne Spikes led JSU's offensive output, going 2-3 at the plate with a run scored. Carsheena Blanks and Shannon Tillar each recorded a hit and run. Alla Williams and Farren Wright each scored a run for the Lady Tigers. Siena opened the game by putting the first run on the scoreboard. JSU took the lead for good in the third inning, scoring two. JSU increased its lead 4-1, by scoring two more in the fourth. The Lady Tigers put their final run on the scoreboard in the seventh. The Lady Tigers will return to action later today when JSU faces Stephen F. Austin in a rematch of the first game of the tournament. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. |
