April 9, 2008

Jackson, Miss.- The Lady Tigers dropped the opener, 8-2 and rallied to win the nightcap, 5-4, with a RBI single by Ray Williams at the bottom of the ninth to split the home double-header in front of an enthused crowd of Tiger supporters.

A two-run triple by Lady Lions Kaley Christy, and a solo home run by Heathers Sherrill and Allyson McCubbins gave the Southeastern the boost needed, scoring five of their eight runs in the second.

The Lady Tigers responded in the third with one run by Carsheena Blanks to cut the Southeastern lead down to 5-1.

The Lady Lions would then score one run in the fourth and two runs in the seventh, before the Lady Tigers ended the game on a one run score to close the first game at 8-2.

In the nightcap, the Lady Tigers got off to an early lead, scoring two runs in the third. With a 2-1 lead, the Lady Tigers then scored a two RBI homer by Ebony Stevenson to give the Lady Tigers a 4-1 lead heading into the sixth.

The Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions used a three-run homer by Heather Sherrill at the top of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4.

With no hits and no runs coming until the ninth, Lady Tiger Alla Williams used a ground hit, between the short stop and second base, to advance Shannon Tillar home for the game winner.

The Lady Tigers will return to action this weekend, facing Lady Hornets of Alabama State in an important two-day conference series. The first pitch is set for Friday at 5 p.m. on the campus of Alabama State.
