Jackson State had four named to the 2008 SWAC Softball All-Conference Teams



Jessica Villegas finished season 120 stike outs

JACKSON, MISS. -

Pitcher Jessica Villegas, short stop Amanda Boggan, outfielder Breonne Spikes and catcher Shannon Tillar were named to the 2008 SWAC Softball All-Conference teams Wednesday, Apr. 23. Sophomores Villegas and Boggan received first-team honors, Spikes received second-team honors and Tillar earned academic honors.

Villegas, a native of Sylmar, California, posted an 8-18 record for the Lady Tigers. For the season she struck out 120 batters and had a 3.79 earned run average.

Boggan, a Portland, Oregon native, led the team with a .365 batting average. She finished the season with 50 hits, 40 runs, 16 runs batted in, 11 doubles and two triples. Boggan also recorded a .448 slugging percentage, .883 fielding percentage and 10 stolen bases.

Spikes, a Picayune, Mississippi native, finished the season with a .216 batting average, 22 hits, 12 runs, 10 RBI and one home run. She also had a team best .966 fielding percentage.

Tillar, a Colonial Heights, VA native, completed the season with 10 runs, 38 hits, 17 runs batted in and a .956 fielding percentage

The Lady Tigers completed the 2008 season with a 7-8 SWAC record and a 17-35 overall mark.
