The Johnson C. Smith University track and field squad competed in the Christopher Newport Invitational Meet this past weekend. Both teams had impressive outings in just their second meet of the 2008 indoor season.

On the women's side, Shermaine Williams finished second (8.65) in the 60 meter hurdles. Beverly Scott finished 16th in the women's shot put with a throw of 6.76 meters.

On the men's side, Leford Green won both the 200 (21.84) and 400 (49.17) meter dash. Green's performance in the 200 meter dash earned him the meet record originally set by Josh Scott on December 3, 2006.  Green beat out competitors from schools such as UNC-Wilmington, East Carolina University, and Norfolk State University. John Rosemond finished 13th in both the 200 and 400 meters with times of 22.50 and  51.20 seconds.

In the field events, Ty Jordan had a second place finish in the high jump (1.95 m) while Rosemond and Julius Wright were deadlocked at jumps of 1.85m respectively. Coleman McNeil finished with a throw of 12.27 meters in the shot put.

The Golden Bulls will return to action Friday, Feb. 1 when they take part in the Texas Roadhouse Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
