Golden Bulls Rout Virginia State, 85-57

Johnson C. Smith University used a spectacular offensive outing to rout the visiting Trojans of Virginia State University, 85-57. The Golden Bulls now improve to 14-7 overall and 8-5 in the conference.

The Golden Bulls jumped out to an early 12-3 advantage in the first four minutes of play. It would not get any better for the Trojans as the end of the first half saw the Golden Bulls control a 20 point lead (36-16). The second half was an uneventful one as the Golden Bulls maintained the 20+ point lead throughout the entire contest. Despite using every player dressed in uniform tonight, Smith still controlled a double-digit deficit into the final seconds with the score ending at 85-57.

Ryan Scott (Reston, Va.) led all JCSU scorers with 19 points. James Dillard (Apex, N.C.) followed suit with 14 points while Edmund Rainey (Buffalo, N.Y.) chipped in 11.

Virginia State (7-14, 5-8 CIAA) was held to a season low 56 points. Trey Mines was the only Trojan in double figures with 19 points.

Johnson C. Smith will now travel to Ettrick, Virginia on Thursday, Feb. 7 to take on Virginia State for their final eastern division contest of the season.
