Hollis and Hooper Named All-CIAA



Jerry Hollis and Maurice Hooper Have been named to the 2008 Men's Basketball All-CIAA team

Junior forward Jerry Hollis (Charlotte, N.C.) and senior guard Maurice Hooper (Reidsville, N.C.) were recently named to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball All-Conference team as voted on by the league's basketball coaches and sports information directors.

Hollis, a 6-6 forward is ranked among the CIAA's best in several categories: 2nd in blocked shots (1,46 bpg), 3rd in defensive rebounds (5.35), 4th in field goal percentage (56%), 5th in rebounding (7.3 rpg), 14th in steals (1.35 spg), and 19th in scoring (11.6 ppg).

Hooper, makes the all-conference team for the second consecutive year. The senior scored his 1,000th career point during the season opener on his way to 1,292 current points. He too is ranked among the league's best in several categories: 5th in steals (1.65 spg), 5th in assist/turnover ratio (+1.40), 8th in assists (3.5 apg), 11th in free throw percentage (75%), 15th in three-point field goal percentage and 20th in points (11.5 ppg).

Hooper and Hollis were both named CIAA Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year in their respective freshman campaigns, Hooper in 2005 and Hollis in 2007. Both young men will be recognized along with other All-conference performers on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at the CIAA Men's Basketball Tip-Off Banquet at the Westin Hotel in uptown Charlotte. The tip-off banquet begins promptly at 6:30 p.m.
