Final Stats

Fayetteville State University exploded on Johnson C. Smith University en route to a 48-3 homecoming victory Saturday afternoon inside Luther "Nick" Jeralds Stadium. Fayetteville State, currently ranked 8th in the Super Regional One Poll, improves to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the CIAA while JCSU drops to 2-6 overall, 1-4 in league play.

It only took sophomore running back Richard Medlin 13 seconds to return the opening kickoff 83 yards and put FSU out in front. After the initial shock of the opening kick-off return, JCSU marched down the field on their first drive to set-up the eventual field goal by Julius Wright (Fort Worth, Texas). However, that would be as far as the Golden Bulls would get in the contest.

The Broncos had six different offensive players score touchdowns and they never trailed in the contest. Fayetteville State produced 445 total yards on offense; the defense held JCSU to just three points, 219 total yards, and forced four turnovers (2 interceptions, 2 fumbles recovered).

Medlin finished the day with 244 all-purpose yards, including a season-high 134 rushing yards and a touchdown run. FSU opened up the aerial attack, which resulted in five passing touchdowns. FSU quarterback Bryan Hardy threw for 163 yards on 11-of-23 attempts and three TDs.

The Broncos' defense sacked the JCSU field generals five times in the contest with Eric Conway leading the way with two sacks. Conway also had six tackles (2 solo, 4 assists), and three tackles for a loss. Jeff Gowdy recorded two interceptions in the victory.

Sophomore linebacker Michael Morgan (Sumter, S.C.) was one of the bright spots in an otherwise dismal day for the Golden Bulls. Morgan had a game-high 11 tackles (6 solo, 5 assists), three sacks for a loss of 29 yards, and four tackles for a loss of 33 yards. Sophomore Colby Harden (Charlotte, N.C.) was the other double digit tackler with 10 on the day.

JCSU will look to regroup against the Hawks of Chowan University on October 25, 2008 for the Golden Bulls' Homecoming. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $15 for children 6 & older, senior citizens and non-JCSU students with valid identification.
