Final Stats

Johnson C. Smith University (13-7, 9-3 CIAA) cruised to a 61-39 victory over the visiting Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College (5-15, 4-9 CIAA). The win helps JCSU to remain undefeated in Brayboy Gymnasium this season.

JCSU jumped out to a 15-7 advantage mid-way through the first half and never looked back. Livingstone cut the lead to single digits twice early in the second half but that would be as close as the Lady Blue Bears would get.

JCSU shot 46.4% from the field while holding Livingstone to just 25%. Despite committing 28 turnovers, JCSU out-rebounded LC 50-24 to control the double-digit victory.

Leading the way for JCSU was Kyria Buford (Charlotte, N.C.) who tallied 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Senior point guard Ashley Chase (Baltimore, Md.) had her fifth double-digit outing with 16 points while dishing out seven assists in the win.

Turquoise Lane was one of two Lady Blue Bears in double-digits with 13 points. Joining Lane in double-figures was Latysha Sanders with 10 points. Lane also had five rebounds, five assists, and four steals.

With the loss, the Lady Blue Bears fall to 5-15 overall while the Lady Golden Bulls improve to 13-7 overall with the win.

JCSU returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 pm as they play host to the Lady Trojans of Virginia State University at the Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium.
