Johnson C. Smith Women's Basketball to Take Part in WBCA's "Think Pink" Initiative

Johnson C. Smith will take part in the WBCA's Think Pink Initiative on Feb. 12

Feb. 4, 2008

The Johnson C. Smith University athletics department is pleased to announce their involvement in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) "Think Pink" initiative. JCSU fans and members of the athletics staff wore red on February 2, 2008, as part of "National Wear Red Day" to encourage awareness of women's heart health. As a follow-up activity, JCSU is taking part in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's "Think Pink" initiative in support of breast cancer awareness.

The game is set for February 12th as the Lady Golden Bulls will take on the Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons at Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium at 5:30 PM. The Golden Bulls are one of over 600 schools that will be participating nation-wide this year.

In addition, the women's basketball teams will be wearing pink uniforms that were provided by Russell Athletics. The men's basketball team will also take part by wearing pink shoot-around shirts prior to the start of their contest. There will be free "pink" (strawberry) ice cream while supplies last. All fans attending either of the games are encouraged to wear "pink" to support the cause. Members of the JCSU family who are breast cancer survivors will be honorary captains for the day!

The week of February 8-17 is the designated week for the WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative with activities going on across the country with over 600 teams committed to join the fight against Breast Cancer. The WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
