BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins men's basketball senior Doug Polster (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II Second Team on Thursday. A double major in Spanish and psychology, he boasts a 3.41 cumulative GPA.
Polster is tops on the team and ranks seventh in the Centennial Conference averaging 15.5 points per game. He also leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference with a 81.3 percent free throw percentage. Polster ranks sixth in school history in three point field goals (123) and eighth in three-point field goal attempts (326). He had a streak of 18 consecutive games with a three-pointer earlier in the season, the eighth longest in program history.
Polster is a forensic psychology intern with Dr. Noonberg, an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins. A Dean's List honoree, he has also been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. This is the second straight season that a men's basketball player has earned academic all-district honors.
The District II region includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Athletes named to the first team qualify for the national ballot, with the national team due to be announced on November 19. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
