BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team won all five of its meets on Sunday to improve to 14-4 on the season. JHU earned wins over William & Mary, St. John's, Maryland, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Junior Ben Dorfman (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) and sophomore James Pearse (Concord, MA/Concord Carlisle) led the Blue Jays with 12 wins each.

JHU defeated William & Mary 19-8, sweeping all three weapons. Senior Aaron Fernandes (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn) led the Sabre team by winning all three of his bouts. The Blue Jays won in the Sabre 7-2. In the Epee, Pearse and junior Dane Schiro (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) each won two bouts to lead JHU to a 6-3 win. And in the Foil, junior David Ferguson (New York, NY/Stuyvesant), sophomore Ian McCue (Yardley, PA/Princeton Day School) and Dorfman each went 2-1.

Against St. John's, Hopkins again swept all three weapons en route to a 24-3 win. In the Sabre the Blue Jays dominated, winning 9-0. Junior David Hill (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) led the way going 3-0. Ferguson and Dorfman each went 3-0 as JHU won in the Foil 6-3. Pearse, Schiro and sophomore Chris Mihalsky (Edmond, OK/Edmond North) each went 3-0 in the Epee.

Once again, JHU swept all three weapons in a 24-3 win over Maryland. Pearse led the way again, winning all three of his bouts in the Epee. The Blue Jays won the Sabre by a 9-0 score, with freshman Max Wieder (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) and Fernandes winning all three of their bouts. In the Foil, Dorfman and McCue each went 3-0 as JHU won 8-1.

Hopkins picked up a 23-4 win over Virginia after a sweep of all three weapons. In the Foil, freshman Nick Krywopusk (Richboro, PA/Princeton Day School) and Dorfman swept all three of their bouts to lead JHU to an 8-1 win. Pearse once again won all three of his bouts in the Epee, as the Blue Jays won 7-2. JHU won the Sabre by an 8-1 score, led by Wieder's three wins.

In an 18-9 win over Virginia Tech, Hopkins won the Epee and the Foil while the Hokies won the Sabre. In the Epee, Freshman Thomas Ronan (New Haven, CT/Pinkerton Academy (NH)) and sophomore Harry Oppenheim (Weston, FL/University School of NSU) each won two bouts as JHU won 7-2. In the Sabre, Hill, sophomore Nakul Tasker (Weston, MA/Walnut), Wieder and freshman Michael Fellows (Beverly, MA/St. Johns Prep) each won one bout in a 5-4 loss. And in the Foil, McCue and Krywopusk led the way as each won all three of his bouts for a 7-2 JHU win.

On the day, Pearse went 12-2 and is now 20-7 on the season. Dorfman went 12-1 and is now 26-4 in dual meets. Wieder leads the way with a 30-9 record after going 10-2 on Sunday.

The Blue Jays return to action next weekend at the Northwestern Open. JHU will fence on Saturday, February 2 and Sunday, February 3 in Evanston, IL.
