OXFORD, OH - The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team broke four school records en route to second place after day one of the 2008 NCAA Championships. Kenyon is in first place with 201 points, followed by Hopkins in second (110) and Denison in third (105).

The Blue Jays opened the meet with a bronze finish in the 200 Free Relay. The team of senior Brad Test (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy), sophomores Neil Mahoney (Excelsior, MN/Minnetonka) and John Thomas (Montrose, CO/Montrose) and senior Matt Fedderly (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh School) swam a time of 1:21.80. That broke the school record time of 1:22.57 that had stood since 1994.

Three Blue Jays then placed in the 200 IM, led by Mahoney who finished in fourth with a final's time of 1:51.50. His prelim time of 1:50.70 bested the school record by nearly two seconds. Freshman Brian Keeley (Rockord, MI/Rockford) took fifth in 1:51.55 with Fedderly finishing in 16th in 1:55.82. Test then took fifth in the 50 Free with a time of 20.35. His prelim time of 20.03 bested Eric Steidinger's school record time of 20.26 set in 1994.

Hopkins closed out the day with a silver in the 400 Medley Relay with a record time of 3:18.43. Swimming the relay were Thomas, Fedderly, junior Bob Sershon (Chicago, IL/St. Patrick) and Test.

Day two of the championships is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am on Friday with the prelims at the Corwin Nixon Aquatic Center. The finals are scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm. Events set for Friday are the 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back and 800 Free Relay. Test now has 21 All-America honors in his career - tied for third most in school history.
