SWARTHMORE, PA - The #15 Johns Hopkins men's tennis dropped a close 5-4 match to #25 Washington & Lee Sunday in Swarthmore, PA as the Generals avenged their loss to the Blue Jays last season in the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Jays fall to 5-5 overall while the Generals are now 13-4.

W&L took a 2-1 lead after doubles with wins at second and third. Senior Joe Vasoontara (Bangkok, Thailand/Loomis Chaffee) and freshman Casey Blythe (Louisville, KY/Saint Xavier) earned the lone win at doubles for Hopkins, beating Tim Ross and Jamie McCardell at first 8-5.

In singles, W&L picked up wins at second, third and sixth to the match. At first, Maldow won his fourth straight and 16th of the season, beating Ross 6-4, 6-4. He is now just two wins shy of tying the program single-season record, a record he set last season. Blythe improved his record to 13-6 on the season with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Brent Meyers at fourth. Sophomore Peter Vale (Haverford, PA/Episcopal Academy) won his third straight and evened his record at 7-7, beating McCardell in three sets at fifth.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 5 at Ursinus. The Centennial Conference match is slated to begin at 1 pm.
