Johns Hopkins Competes at Occoquan Sprints

LORTON, VA - The Johns Hopkins women's crew team competed at the Occoquan Sprints on Sunday after the Caspersen Cup was cancelled on Saturday due to poor conditions. The Blue Jays will be in action next Saturday as they host the JHU Invitational. In the women's novice four, the Blue Jays finished second in their heat with a time of 8:39.80. In the boat for JHU were freshman Carolyn Pearce (Honolulu, HI/Mid-Pacific Institute), sophomore Nicole Pangborn (Johnston, RI/Mt. St. Charles Academy), freshmen Lauren Thompson (Baltimore, MD/Towson), Alexis Roy (Forked River, NJ/Lanoka Harbor) and Sam Ruff (Croton, NY/Hendrick Hudson). In the women's varsity four, Hopkins had two boats compete. The "A" boat finished fourth in its heat with a time of 8:25.6967 while the "B" boat finished fourth in its heat with a time of 8:16.5067. In the "A" boat were freshmen Beth Simmons (Arlington, VA/Yorktown) and Pia Heilmann (Coppell, TX/Phillips Academy Andover (MA)), senior Clare Blubaugh (Hickory, NC/St. Catherine's School (VA)), juniors Katie Blumer (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater Area) and Rebecca Williamson (Burlington, Ontario/Hillfield Strathallan). In the "B" boat were juniors Jenna Rossoff (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) and Vanessa Damm (Riverside, CT/Greenwich), sophomore Roseann Martin (Miami, FL/Felix Varela), juniors Courtney Cunningham (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) and Amelia Whitman (Galesville, MD)
