LORTON, VA - The Johns Hopkins women's varsity eight crew won gold at the Mid Atlantic Collegiate Crew Championships on Sunday. The novice four crew placed fourth in the Petite Final.
A week after placing second in the petite final at the Mid Atlantic Division III regional Championships, the varsity eight crew won gold in the Grand Final at the Mid Atlantic Championships. In the boat were freshman Beth Simmonds (Arlington, VA/Yorktown), junior Vanessa Damm (Riverside, CT/Greenwich), senior Clare Blubaugh (Hickory, NC/St. Catherine's School (VA)), freshman Pia Heilmann (Coppell, TX/Phillips Academy Andover (MA)), sophomore Roseann Martin (Miami, FL/Felix Varela), junior Rebecca Williamson (Burlington, Ontario/Hillfield Strathallan), freshman Linda Zhou (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial), juniors Courtney Cunningham (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) and Amelia Whitman (Galesville, MD).
The novice four boat of freshman Carolyn Pearce (Honolulu, HI/Mid-Pacific Institute), sophomore Nicole Pangborn (Johnston, RI/Mt. St. Charles Academy), freshmen Lauren Thompson (Baltimore, MD/Towson), Alexis Roy (Forked River, NJ/Lanoka Harbor) and Sam Ruff (Croton, NY/Hendrick Hudson) finished third in its heat before placing fourth in the Petite Final.
Next up for Johns Hopkins is the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia May 9-10.
