Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - The #12 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays rallied late in the second half, but fell just short on a rain soaked afternoon to #9 Georgetown at Homewood Field Friday. Senior middie Kirby Houck (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest) paced Hopkins (1-3) with a career-high five goals, while Ashby Kaestner had five for Georgetown (5-0).

Georgetown jumped out to a 3-0 lead just 9:21 into the game as Kaestner sandwiched a pair of goals around a strike from Molly Ford. The Blue Jays finally got on the board at 12:08 on a free position goal from Houck. Freshman Brianna Cronin (Arlington, MA/Arlington) scored on a bounce shot with 12:07 to play in the half to cut the deficit to one. That would be all the scoring in the first as the Hoyas took a 3-2 lead into the half.

The Hoyas came out firing in the second half, scoring four goals in a little over seven minutes to push out to a 7-2 lead. Jordy Kirr got the run going just 21 seconds in on a fast break after Georgetown won the draw. Kaester, Patty Piotrowicz and Bunny O'Reilly all tacked on goals during the run. Houck halted the run briefly when she sandwiched a pair of goals around a Hoya goal from Zan Morley. The Hoyas answered Houck's third of the day with a 4-0 run to take a 12-4 lead with 11:31 to play.

Hopkins offense came alive with under 10 to play in the game, when sophomore Kim Dubansky (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) scored on a free position shot at 9:22. From behind the cage sophomore Brett Bathras (Severna Park, MD/Severn School) fed a pass to sophomore Sam Schrum (Pasadena, MD/St. Mary's) who fired it past Caitlin Formby for her fifth of the season with 7:40 to play. Less than a minute later, Schrum scooped a loose ball after Formby stopped a free position shot and scored on a low shot to make it 12-7. Houck won the ensuing draw and 30 seconds later, Bathras found Stamper for her fifth of the season.

After a save by junior Jess Buicko (Altamont, NY/Hotchkiss), Hopkins cleared the ball out of its end and Stamper found Houck open in front of the Hoyas' cage for her sixth of the season. The Blue Jays trailed 12-9 with 4:01 to play. Hopkins won the draw but turned the ball over in the Georgetown zone. The Hoyas cleared the ball and stalled in the Hopkins end for over two and a half minutes. Hopkins got a turnover and cleared the ball with Stamper and Houck connecting again to make it 12-10 Georgetown with just 21 seconds on the clock. Hopkins would get one last shot off as the clock expired but Formby came up with the save.

Five different Blue Jays scored led by Houck's five, though Schrum was the only other player with a multi-goal game. Stamper finished with one goal and two assists on the day. Seven different Hoyas scored in the game, led by Kaestner's five. Freshman Julianne Wisner (Parkton, MD/Notre Dame Prep) got the start in goal for Hopkins and finished with three saves in 47 minutes of play. Buicko came in with 13 minutes to play and finished with one save. Formby posted 11 saves to earn the win.

Hopkins is scheduled to host Ohio State at 1:00 pm in the Blue Jays American Lacrosse Conference opener. Due to current weather conditions, please stay tuned to HopkinsSports.com for updates on the game.
