UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team outscored host Penn State 8-2 in the second half en route to a 10-8 win Saturday afternoon in American Lacrosse Conference action. Senior Lauren Schwarzmann (Sykesville, MD/Century) scored what proved to be the gamewinner on a free position shot with 8:15 to play in the second. Hopkins improves to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference, while Penn State drops to 4-11 overall and 0-4 in the ALC.

Penn State jumped out to a 4-0 lead just 8:17 into the contest fueled by two goals from Erica Mihm. Freshman Sam Schrum (Pasadena, MD/St. Mary's) put Hopkins on the board at 11:28 on an unassisted tally. But goals from Jessi Lieb and Mary LeNoir put the Nittany Lions up 6-1 with just 2:03 to play in the half. Senior Kirby Houck (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest) potted a goal with just 35 seconds remaining as the Blue Jays trailed 6-2 at the half.

Coming out of the break, senior Kadie Stamper (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) and Schrum scored just 50 seconds apart to cut the deficit to two. It then went back-and-forth as Marisa Lozano and Lieb sandwiched a pair around a strike from Houck to make it an 8-5 game with 22:26 to play in the game. It was all Hopkins from then on out as Stamper scored on a free position shot to fuel a 5-0 game-ending run for the Blue Jays.

Schrum led the Blue Jays with three goals and an assist, while Stamper and Houck each had two-goal games. Junior goalie Jess Buicko (Altamont, NY/Hotchkiss) came on in relief 8:17 into the game and finished with six saves to earn the win. For the Nittany Lions, Lieb, LeNoir and Mihm each had two-goal games. Jess Boccio finished with 10 saves in the loss for Penn State.

Hopkins will wrap up its regular season on Monday afternoon when the Ohio State Buckeyes visit Baltimore. The ALC match-up is slated for a 3:00 pm start. The Blue Jays will look to secure the third seed in next weekend's ALC Tournament at Northwestern.
