Jen Kasper Named Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach
June 11, 2008
BALTIMORE, MD - Jen Kasper, who spent the 2008 season as the co-head women's lacrosse coach at Stanford, has been named an assistant coach at Johns Hopkins it was announced today by Blue Jay head coach Janine Tucker. Kasper will work directly with the Blue Jay offense and goalies while assisting in all day-to-day operations of the program.
"We are thrilled to have Jen join our staff and look forward to the energy and excitement she will bring to our program," Tucker noted. "The experience she gained at Stanford and her familiarity with the Baltimore area made her an ideal candidate. She is one of the bright young coaches in our profession and we are fortunate to have her as a member of our Blue Jay family."
A 2007 graduate of UMBC and a native of Eldersburg, Maryland, Kasper joined the Stanford staff last August as an assistant coach and was elevated to co-head coach early in the 2008 season. She helped guide the Cardinal to a 12-8 record and a fourth straight Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Tournament Championship. The Cardinal placed five players on the 2008 MPSF All-Conference Team and 15 players were named to the MPSF All-Academic Team.
Kasper enjoyed a stellar playing career at UMBC, where she lettered four times as an attacker and twice earned Second Team All-America East honors. She finished her career with 86 goals and 56 assists for 142 points and, as a senior, led the team in assists (18) and points (44). Her 56 assists ranked fourth in school history when she graduated.
"Jen is an impressive young coach," Tucker added. "It is easy to see why she was so highly successful early in her career. She is extremely competitive and innovative and is an incredibly hard worker."
Kasper has been active as a coach at the club level and was a three-sport standout at South Carroll High School (MD), where she played soccer, basketball and lacrosse. She earned all-county honors three times in lacrosse and twice in soccer.
Johns Hopkins advanced to the American Lacrosse Conference Semifinals in 2008 and has participated in the NCAA Tournament three times in the last five seasons. The Blue Jays will welcome back seven starters and three of their top six scorers in 2009.
