BALTIMORE, MD - The #14 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team returned home from Florida and promptly won its fifth straight match, beating Muhlenberg 6-3 on Friday. The Blue Jays are now 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Mules fall to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Centennial.

\The Mules took a 2-1 lead into singles play after winning two of the three doubles matches. Hopkins lone win in doubles came at first. Junior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and sophomore Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) won 8-2 over Jenn Powell and Carly Rotfeld. At second, Caitie Druker and Sara Sutker beat freshman Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) and sophomore Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) 8-6. Danielle Winston and Lindsay Schmidt then beat sophomore Amanda Schubert (Richmond, VA/Mills E. Godwin) and freshman Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) by an identical score at third.

Hopkins rallied in singles play, winning five of six to take the match 6-3. Bhamidipati improved to 9-2 on the season by beating Druker 7-5, 6-1 at second. Dwyer remained unbeaten on the season at 9-0 with her 7-5, 6-1 win over Rotfeld at third. At fourth, Elamir won her fifth straight by dropping just one game against Sutker. Schubert won 6-3, 6-1 at fifth, defeating Winston. And at sixth, Berlinghof did not lose a game in beating Jacqueln Magner. The Mules lone singles point came at first after Powell defeated Matava in a three-set match.
 

 

Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, March 25 when Swarthmore visits Baltimore for a 4:00 pm match. It will be a rematch of the 2007 Centennial Conference title match, which the Blue Jays won 5-4.
