BALTIMORE, MD - The #14 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team won its seventh straight match Saturday afternoon, beating Franklin & Marshall 8-1 in Centennial Conference action. Junior Brittany Matava's (Denver, CO/Littleton) win at first singles was the 49th of her career, tying Tanya Gulnik's career record. Hopkins is now 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial while F&M is 1-4 and 0-2 in the conference.

Hopkins swept through the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. At second, freshmen Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) and Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) blanked Dana Russo and Kelsey Tylus 8-0. At first, Matava and sophomore Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township High School) won their sixth straight match, beating Dani Barish and Erica Wood 8-2. And at third, freshman Julia Guarino (Bradenton, FL/Saint Stephen's Episcopal) and junior Debbie Blass (Bridgeport, NY/Chittenango) won 8-5 over Jenna Ishkanian and Valeri Harteg.

Matava dropped just one game in beating Barish at first singles to tie the program record for career singles wins, winning 6-1, 6-0. Bhamidipati also dropped just one game with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Wood at second. Dwyer remained unbeaten on the season at 11-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Russo at third. At fourth, Elamir picked up her seventh straight to improve to 9-1 overall, beating Ishkanian 6-1, 6-0. Blass held on for her fifth win of the season at sixth. She dropped the first set 6-3 to Tylus, but came back to win the second and a super tiebreaker in the third. The Diplomats lone win of the match came at fifth. Sophomore Amanda Schubert (Richmond, VA/Mills E. Godwin) won her first set 6-4 over Cecily Koss. But Koss came back to win the second 6-4 and 10-5 in the super tiebreaker.

Hopkins, which has now won four straight over F&M, will return to action on Wednesday, April 2 at Dickinson. The Centennial Conference match is slated to begin at 3:30 pm.
