BALTIMORE, MD - Reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Year, junior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) won her 50th career singles match on Wednesday to break the Johns Hopkins record and lead the Blue Jays to a 9-0 win over the Dickinson Red Devils. The Blue Jays remain unbeaten on the year at 8-0, including a 5-0 mark in the Centennial Conference. Dickinson slips to 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Hopkins opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches. Matava and sophomore Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) won their seventh straight, beating Anne McGillicuddy and Caitlin McGovern 8-6 at first. Freshman Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) and sophomore Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) beat Joelle Nitzberg and Sarah Woodward 8-1 at second to improve to 7-4 on the season. And at third, freshman Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) and sophomore Amanda Schubert (Richmond, VA/Mills E. Godwin) won 8-2 over Jamie Wolf and Anne Newall to move to 6-1 on the year.

In singles play, the Blue Jays won all six matches in straight sets, as Bhamidipati and Elamir did not lose a game at second and fourth respectively. Matava's historic win came at first, 6-1, 6-4 over McGillicuddy to improve her all-time record to 50-19. Dwyer dropped just two games, winning 6-1, 6-1 at third over Woodward to remain unbeaten at 12-0 on the season. Schubert also dropped just two games as she beat Carla Cox 6-0, 6-2 at fifth. Berlinghof won her third straight, beating McGovern 6-1, 6-0 at sixth.
 

 

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 5 at Haverford. The Centennial Conference match is slated to begin at noon. The Blue Jays will then travel to Pittsburgh to take on the #8 Carnegie Mellon Tartans on Sunday.
