HAVERFORD, PA - The #19 Johns Hopkins women's team extended their win streak to nine straight with an 8-1 win at Haverford Saturday afternoon. It is the best start in school history for the Blue Jays. Hopkins improves to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the Centennial Conference while Haverford drops to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Hopkins won two of three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead on Haverford. Junior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and sophomore Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) won their eighth match, beating Katherine Wettick and Karen Lavi 8-1 at first. At second, freshman Yasmine Elamire (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) and sophomore Ellen Berlinghof (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) improved to 8-4 overall with an 8-1 win over Meaghan Ryan and Katherine Drooyan. The Fords lone point of the match came at third doubles, where Fumiko Shogase and Jaclyn Porter beat sophomore Amanda Schubert (Richmond, VA/Mills E. Godwin) and freshman Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) 8-6.

The Blue Jays then swept all six singles matches in straight sets to win the match 8-1. Matava improved to 16-3 on the season with a 6-1, 6-4 win at first over Wettick. Bhamidipati won at second, beating Helen Fisun 6-1, 6-2 for her sixth straight win. Dwyer remained unbeaten at 13-0 on the season while dropping just one game in beating Lavi at third. Elamir did not drop a game in beating Shogase at fourth for her ninth straight win. Schubert won 6-2, 6-2 at fifth over Porter for her ninth win of the season. And at sixth, Berlinghof improved to 11-3 on the season, beating Drooyan while dropping just one game.
 

 

Hopkins returns to action on Sunday at #8 Carnegie Mellon. The non-conference match is slated to begin at noon. The Blue Jays won last year's meeting 5-2.
