BALTIMORE, MD - The #21 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team rebounded from an early 2-1 deficit to defeat Ursinus 7-2 on Saturday afternoon. The win moved the Blue Jays to 13-1 on the season with a perfect 10-0 mark in the Centennial. It is the second consecutive unbeaten season in the conference for Hopkins as the team will host the Centennial Conference Championship next weekend.

Ursinus (7-9, 2-8 CC) picked up wins at second and third doubles to take a 2-1 lead on Hopkins, but the home team rebounded by sweeping all six singles matches to win the match. Freshman Julia Guarino (Bradenton, FL/Saint Stephen's Episcopal) and junior Debbie Blass (Bridgeport, NY/Chittenango) won at first, beating Jennifer Hope and Jill Alspach 8-6.

In single play, sophomore Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) lost just two games in beating Hope at first 6-1, 6-1 for her 10th straight win. At second, junior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) beat Laura Ng 7-5, 6-4, her 19th win of the season. Freshman Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) won her 13th straight match and 15th overall with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Julia Kurtz at third. At fourth, freshman Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) also won her 15th match of the season, beating Pamela Odorizzi 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) remained unbeaten at 8-0 in the Centennial with a 6-2, 6-1 win at fifth over Johanna Siegel. And at sixth, senior Stephanie Carr (West Hills, CA/La Reina) won 6-2, 6-3 over Rachel Sussman to move to 2-0 on the season.
 

 

Hopkins will wrap up its regular season on Tuesday, April 22 when #7 Mary Washington visits Baltimore. The non-conference match-up is slated to begin at 4:00 pm.
