Robbins, Jenkins Take A-Sun Weekly Awards
April 28, 2008
MACON, Ga.--Following a sweep of Campbell over the weekend, Kennesaw State's Jacob Robbins and Chad Jenkins have been named Atlantic Sun Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in an announcement by the conference office Monday afternoon. The award is the second of the season for Robbins and the first of the year for Jenkins. It marks the third time this season that players from the same school have swept the A-Sun weekly honors. Robbins, a native of Calhoun, Ga., was impressive at the plate last week. The junior hit .467 over five game (10-for-21) and hit .636 (7-of-11) in the three-game set against the Camels. Robbins had an on-base percentage of .667 for the series, raising his season percentage to .493. The management major had multiple hits in four straight contests to close the week. "I feel that our team responds to Jacob offensively," said KSU head coach Mike Sansing. "He's the catalyst that gets us going. He had a great week and a great weekend for us last week, and I'm very proud of him for winning this award for the second time." Jenkins pitched his second complete game of the season in KSU's 5-3 victory over Campbell. A sophomore, Jenkins allowed just two earned runs on five hits with one walk and eight strikouts. The accounting major and native of Canton, Ga., needed only 94 pitches to record 27 outs. "I think Chad has thrown some great innings for us this year," said Coach Sansing. "On Friday night, he had command of all of his pitches and kept getting stronger as the game progressed. He was in complete control of the game for us, and we really needed the lift he gave us with that outing." The Owls will not have a mid-week game this week due to final exams. The team will concentrate on the classroom and return to the playing field for a contest against Gardner-Webb this Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at Stillwell Stadium. |
