Wooten's Efforts Rewarded with Player of the Week Honors

Jan. 28, 2008

MACON, Ga.--For the first time this season and the third time in his career, Kennesaw State senior Ronell Wooten has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

The Statesboro, Ga., native led the Owls to a pair of home victories over A-Sun foes Belmont and Lipscomb. Against the Bruins on Thursday night, Wooten scored a game-high 30 points as the Owls came away with an 81-79 victory. In Saturday night's tilt against Lipscomb, Wooten scored a team-best 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

For the week, Wooten averaged 26.5 points per game and snared 5.0 rebounds per contest. The senior shot 58.1 percent from the field, including hitting on 11-of-21 attempts from three-point range.

"The first thing that comes to mind is how very deserving Ronell is of this award," said Owls head coach Tony Ingle. "He had an outstanding week for us not only from an offensive perspective but defensively as well."

After leading the Owls to back-to-back wins for the first time this season, Wooten will try and guide KSU to its third straight win when the squad hosts Savannah State on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. The game can be seen on ASun.TV and can be heard locally on Supertalk 1230/1340 AM.
