Owls Hit the Road for A-Sun Tests

Feb. 1, 2008

KENNESAW, Ga.--The Kennesaw State men's basketball team will be on the road for its next three contests, starting with Friday night's showdown with former Peach Belt Conference rival USC Upstate. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. in a contest that will air on SuperTalk 1230/1340 AM in the metro Atlanta area.

The Owls (6-15, 3-4 A-Sun) are riding a season-high three game winning streak after defeating Savannah State, 79-77, on Tuesday night. Senior Shuan Stegall had 27 points to lead the attack for KSU, with four other players scoring in double figures for the Black and Gold.

While the Owls improved to 6-4 at home on the season during the winning streak, Kennesaw State is still seeking the first win of the season away from the Convocation Center. The Owls are 0-9 on the road and 0-2 at neutral sites. Dating back to last season, the Owls have lost their last 13 games away from Kennesaw.

Ronell Wooten enters the weekend 15 points shy of the 1,500 mark for his career. The reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week, Wooten has averaged 22.6 points per game over the past three games. For the season, the Statesboro, Ga., native is averaging 16.9 points per game, ranking him fourth in the A-Sun.

The Owls are 7-10 all-time against USC Upstate (4-17, 2-5). The last time the two teams met was during the 2004-05 season, when the Spartans defeated the Owls, 81-70, in overtime. The loss ended an 18 game winning streak for the Owls in Peach Belt Conference play.

Following Friday's game, the Owls will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., for an A-Sun contest against East Tennessee State on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The Owls are 1-3 all-time against the Bucs. Last season, ETSU defeated the Owls in overtime in Johnson City, then defeated the Owls by four points in Kennesaw.

ETSU will face Mercer on Friday night in an A-Sun contest before hosting the Owls.
