Owls Face A-Sun's Leading Scorer

Feb. 6, 2008

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Kennesaw State will look to snap its two-game losing streak on Thursday evening as they battle the Camels of Campbell at Carter Gymnasium.

The recent surge of the Owls (6-17, 3-6 A-Sun) came to a brief halt as Kennesaw State dropped its last two games to USC Upstate and East Tennessee State. The Owls had won three straight home games, defeating Belmont, Lipscomb and Savannah State, before dropping a pair of six-point decisions.

Kennesaw State is finishing up a three-game road trip and is still searching for its first road win of the season. The Owls battle a Campbell squad that just snapped a three-game losing streak of their own with a 78-74 overtime win at North Florida on Saturday night.

The Camels (9-12, 4-5 A-Sun) are a win away from climbing back to .500 in the league. Campbell stood at 4-2 in the conference before losing consecutive games to Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson and Jacksonville.

Recently, KSU seniors Ronell Wooten and Shuan Stegall have been lighting up the scoreboard for Kennesaw State. Wooten, who averaged 24.0 points over the last two games, recently surpassed the 1,500-point plateau last Friday against USC Upstate and now stands just 150 points away from becoming the Owls all-time leading scorer. Stegall is averaging 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds over his last two games.

The A-Sun's leading scorer, Jonathan Rodriguez, will be the key to any success the Camels will have on Thursday night. Rodriguez, who averages 20.9 points and 9.8 rebounds, has 11 double-doubles this season and has led Campbell in scoring in 13 games while leading the Camels in rebounding in 18 of 21 games.

Campbell also features a trio of players who also average in double figures. Reggie Bishop (12.2 ppg), Kyle Vejraska (10.2 ppg) and Jake Wohlfeil (10.4 ppg) have all helped the Camels, who are shooting at a 43.8% clip while scoring 72.1 ppg, good for fifth in the conference.

This is the only meeting of the season between Kennesaw State and Campbell. The Owls and the Camels have split four previous meetings. Kennesaw State is 1-1 at Carter Gym, winning there in 2006 (87-77) and dropping a three-point decision (88-85) last year in double overtime.

The game mark's the final time Kennesaw State will play in Campbell's historic band-box. Carter Gym will be replaced by a new arena, scheduled for opening next season.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and the game can be heard on SuperTalk 1230/1340 AM.
