KENNESAW, Ga. - The Owls will be looking to put an end to a four-game losing skid tonight at the KSU Convocation Center, when they take on Stetson at 7:30 p.m. in an Atlantic Sun Conference match-up. The two teams met in January in DeLand, Fla. with the Hatters coming out victorious, 66-54. With a win tonight, Kennesaw State (6-19, 3-8) would leave the door open to finish at 8-8 in the Conference for the third consecutive season. The Owls will also be looking to even their all-time record against Stetson (12-13, 7-4), as the teams have split the season series in each of the two seasons since KSU joined the A-Sun. The Owls, despite shooting a season-low 28.1 percent from the floor and 10.0 percent (2-for-20) from behind the three-point arc, kept the game close with their defense. They committed fewer turnovers while creating more steals and blocking more shots than the Hatters. If they combine their consistent defensive effort with the improved shooting they've experienced over the past few games, the Owls should be able to begin a new winning streak and bring head coach Tony Ingle ever closer to his 150th win at Kennesaw State. Ingle is currently four wins away from the prestigious milestone and seniors Ronell Wooten and Shuan Stegall are driven to help push their coach past the mark with a strong finish to the season and their collegiate careers. Wooten and Stegall will also be looking to reach career milestones of their own in the Owls last five games. Wooten, who is currently KSU's second all-time leading scorer, will need to average nearly 26 points a contest to finish as the Owls all-time leading scorer. Though seemingly a tall task, the guard from Statesboro, Ga. has scored over 25 points five times this season including a season-high 30 against Belmont. Stegall will also need a strong finish to the season to become the tenth member of the KSU 1,000-Point Club. The third-year player needs to average 14.6 points per game over his final five games to join the ranks of KSU's top scorers. Stetson has won its last two contests, including a, 68-56, victory over East Tennessee State which knocked the Buccaneers out of first place in the A-Sun. Garfield Blair led the Hatters in each win, scoring 21 against USC Upstate and 20 against ETSU. Blair and Wooten are two of the top scorers in the A-Sun this season. Blair is averaging 19.4 points per A-Sun contest, good for third in the league, while Wooten sits in fifth with an 18.3 points per game average. When each game is counted, Wooten has a scoring average of 17.0 points per game - fourth-best in the A-Sun - while Blair has an average of 16.4 points per game, placing him in fifth. The game can be heard live on SuperTalk 1230/1340 AM or can be watched on the web on A-Sun TV. |
