Lady Owls to "Think Pink" on Saturday

Feb. 13, 2008

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's basketball team will do its part to fight breast cancer as the Lady Owls will participate in "Think Pink Day" on Saturday, February 16 in their game against Florida Gulf Coast. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. inside the KSU Convocation Center.

The WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

The WBCA began "Think Pink" in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. Last season, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year of the WBCA's "Think Pink" a success.

"We are pleased to be part of this great event," said head coach Colby Tilley. "Raising awareness for breast cancer is an important issue and the fact that Kennesaw State can be a part of that is fantastic."

In addition to asking all fans in attendance to show their commitment by wearing pink to the game, the Lady Owls will take off their normal black and gold jerseys and instead will don pink uniforms with the gracious help of Russell Athletics.

"The coaches and players are excited to wear pink on Saturday," added Tilley. "While it may look a little strange with us not wearing the normal black and gold, it's a great opportunity for us to do something for those who are fighting this disease every day."

KSU will also attempt to show support by taking part in the "Pack the House" challenge, a nationwide effort to raise attendance at women's basketball games. The Lady Owls will be competing against fellow Atlantic Sun Conference schools as well as those around the country in trying to break previous attendance marks.

All 32 conferences are taking part in this year's challenge with all conference winners being announced on March 3, 2008. Judging criteria includes marketing plan creativity and attendance figures, including a sellout or the largest percentage increase from the previous year's single-game record attendance. The NCAA will make a $500 donation to a non-profit organization (of each institution's choice and subject to approval by the NCAA) on behalf of each of the 32 winners.

Admission to Saturday's game will be $1 for all those wearing pink. For ticket information, please call 770-423-OWLS (6957).
