Senior Night Beckons for Lady Owls
Feb. 18, 2008
KENNESAW, Ga. - The Lady Owls will honor five student-athletes tonight as they battle the Stetson Hatters on Senior Night. Stephanie Scearce, Ngoneh Gaye, Nikki Gurley, Katie Martin and Jade Robinson will all be honored before the 7:00 p.m. tip at the KSU Convocation Center. The annual ceremony will honor three juniors, Gurley, Gaye and Scearce, who will all conclude their playing careers this season as they are on pace to graduate. Four-year seniors Martin and Robinson will also be honored as the Lady Owls bid a home farewell to the five players who are the last link to KSU's Division II days. "There is no doubt that this is an extremely emotional evening," said head coach Colby Tilley. "These girls have been with us since we were a Division II program and they helped transition us to Division I, they are part of the most noteworthy event in the school's history and they'll be remembered forever." In addition to the ceremony, the game is also meaningful for the Lady Owls who still have an outside shot at winning the conference regular season title. Currently, Kennesaw State, at 9-3 in the A-Sun, stands one game behind Jacksonville and ETSU in the standings. The Lady Owls need wins in their final four games (Stetson, at Jacksonville, at North Florida and at Mercer) and some help with losses by Jacksonville and ETSU to claim the first basketball title for KSU. The Lady Owls are already the first KSU basketball team to secure a winning conference record since joining Division I. The Lady Owls battled for a, 55-52, victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday afternoon. KSU trailed at the half, but on the strength of a solid team effort, the squad rallied for the victory. Greteya Kelley led the way for Kennesaw State with 16 points, while DeAndrea Bullock came off the bench to add 12 in 30 minutes of action. Following tonight's match-up, the Lady Owls will head out of state for the final time in the regular season, traveling to Florida to take on Jacksonville and North Florida. Game time for Thursday's contest with Jacksonville is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. |
