Positions Set for Cheer Championships

March 29, 2008

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State competitive cheer team received their position for the preliminary round of the 2008 NCA Collegiate Cheer Championships on April 10 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Owls, who finished third in their first two NCA Division I championships, are in the middle of the 16-team pack which features the top eight teams in the country. KSU received a favorable placement and will follow the two squads who finished ahead of them the past two years, Maryland and Louisville.

"I am very pleased to be in the middle of the field following Maryland and Louisville," said head coach Felecia Mulkey. "By the time we have hit the mat the judges have seen enough good teams and we can move right into the flow of the first day."

Kennesaw State, who fields 16 All-Americans, will compete for the first time at 11:44 a.m. on Thursday, April 10 and will be the ninth team to perform. The Black and Gold will compete in the second round on Friday with times to determined after the preliminaries.

"Plain and simple our goal is to hit the routine," added Mulkey. "We have a great routine this year, probably one of our strongest ever and I'm confident that we'll be prepared and have a good result."

The Owls will be competing in their third event of the season. They finished second at the West Coast Championships in Las Vegas and third in the Cheer Sport East Coast Championships last month in Atlanta.

Last season, the Owls finished third, behind Maryland and Louisville while finishing ahead of Quinnipiac and South Carolina.
