KENNESAW, Ga. - Coming off of their best finish of the season, a second place showing at the Baja Invitational two weeks ago, the Kennesaw State women's golf team is heading to Buies Creek, N.C. for the 2008 Fighting Camel Spring Classic. The two-day, 36-hole event will be hosted by Atlantic Sun rival Campbell at the 6,012-yard, par-72 Keith Hills Country Club Course No. 1. "I am looking to the team to continue the great play we had at Baja," said Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead on her expectations for her team. "The team has tasted success and they want to continue to get better." The Owls will face the largest field assembled since the tournament's inception in 1992, as 14 other teams will vie with the Black and Gold for the tournament title. Memphis, Longwood, and Georgetown highlight the field that also includes a total of five A-Sun teams with Florida Gulf Coast, Gardner-Webb and USC Upstate joining the Owls and Camels in the hunt for the crown. This will be the second time around for Kennesaw State at the Fighting Camel Classic. The 2005-06 squad finished ninth out of twelve teams, posting a three-round 1016 team total at the 2006 Classic. It will take a team effort to take the overall title this season, as Campbell has enjoyed an impressive home field advantage in its namesake event. The Camels have walked away team champions 10 times, including a 30-stroke margin of victory in last year's event. "We will need strong play from 1-5 to place well in this field, " added Brinsmead on her team's recipe for success. "I know this team is more than capable of bringing home a victory every time that they set foot on the course." The tournament will kick-off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Monday morning with teams playing 18 holes each day. Tuesday's final round will also begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
