Owls Seek Third Straight Top Five

March 2, 2008

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team will be looking for its third-straight top five finish as they travel to Mobile, Ala. and the Azalea City Golf Course for the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.

The Owls will square off with 17 other teams for the crown at the 36-hole event hosted by the University of South Alabama.

The deep field includes a number of quality teams, led by the Owls 51st-ranked Atlantic Sun Conference foe East Tennessee State. Middle Tennessee State (75), the host Lady Jaguars (91), and Lamar (98) round out the top 100 teams in the field that also includes A-Sun opponent and in-state rival Mercer.

"We are looking to maintain the momentum from our first two tournaments," said Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "We need to continue to get quality play from all five players to place well in this event."

Chelsea Bonk led KSU in their last event, the rain-shortened Fighting Camel Classic. The sophomore from Acworth, Ga. finished tied for fourth to lead the Owls to a fourth place finish.

"Chelsea has really stepped up for us over the last few rounds," added Brinsmead. "I hope she and Laura can continue their solid play to help lead us again."

The Owls have been consistent as a team in their first two events of the spring, with four of five team members recording a top ten individual finish. Abby Fitzgerald (t-5th), Jessica Tarbet (t-7th), and Laura Lindsey (t-10th) all finished in the top ten to lead KSU to a third place finish at the Baja Invitational to open the spring.

The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. EST on Monday with teams playing 18-holes. The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday.
