Owls Set to Show Their Stuff Against Mexico U-20 National Team

April 10, 2008

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's soccer team will continue its spring campaign with an exhibition match against the Mexico Under-20 National Team in the First Annual Get Global Challenge on Friday night. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the KSU Soccer Complex.

After already making one appearance in the US this year, where it defeated the University of Houston, 2-0, on March 2, Mexico is traveling on a three-game trip through Alabama and Georgia in preparation for the Under-20 Women's World Cup in Chile this November. Birmingham is the first stop on the tour, as the squad will face UAB on Thursday night, followed by games at KSU on Friday and the University of Georgia on Sunday.

"Mexico is an excellent squad and solid in all phases of the game," said Owls' head coach, Rob King. "They are technically sound and play an exciting brand of soccer. We will certainly have our work cut out for us."

The Owls enter Friday's match after a 2-1 win at UGA last Sunday afternoon. Yasha Blount scored the Black and Gold's first goal in the 17th minute and Caitlin Dingle put home the game-winner against her former team to send the Owls home from Athens with the victory.

"I think our team has made great strides during our spring play and hopefully that will translate into us playing well against an international team," added King.

Admission to the event is $14 and tickets be purchased by visiting the KSU Athletics website (www.ksuowls.com) and finding the "Get Global Challenge" button down the left-hand side or by calling 770-423-OWLS (6957). Tickets will also be available at the gate the day of the game.

"We are hoping for a great crowd and a lively atmosphere on Friday night," concluded King. "Our fans have always shown up in great numbers and provided tons of support. Hopefully everyone will be just as excited our team is to see how we stack up against Mexico."

The Owls will conclude their spring schedule next weekend when they travel to Jacksonville State on Saturday and then host their annual Alumni Game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the KSU Soccer Complex.
