CLEARWATER, Fla. - Brittany Matthews was lights again as she struck out eight batters to help Kennesaw State beat Syracuse, 4-0, on Sunday morning in the Owls final game at the Under Armour Invitational at the Eddie Moore Softball Complex.

The Owls (19-5) went undefeated on their spring break trip, going 5-0 for the tournament while outscoring the opponents, 19-1. The Black and Gold have now won their last six games and nine of their last ten contests.

KSU started the scoring right from the get-go, posting three runs in the top of the first inning. After Jordan Hackett led off the game by being hit by a pitch and Amanda Malcom reached on a fielder's choice, Jessica Cross doubled to put runners on the corner.

Kelsey Kulk followed with her second sacrifice fly of the year to plate Malcom, giving the Owls an early 1-0 lead. Corri Connally strolled to the plate and after falling behind in the count, ripped her first career triple, scoring Cross from third. Jenna Closner continued the barrage with a double to stretch the Owls lead to three after Connally crossed home plate.

Meanwhile, Matthews (13-1) continued her stellar play in the circle by facing the minimum through the first two innings, striking out four of the first six Syracuse (3-15) batters she encountered.

The Owls scored their fourth and final run in the third when Jacki Warren notched 12th RBI of the season with a single up the middle to score Closner.

Angie Sagnelli (0-6) remained winless after KSU tagged her for three earned runs and four hits in just an inning and a third of work.

The Owls will look to continue its winning streak when they host in-state foe, Georgia Tech, for a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Bailey Park. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. with all the action available for the first time this season on A-Sun.TV.
