Howe Honored by A-Sun
Feb. 7, 2008
MACON, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Conference named Kennesaw State distance specialist Mackenzie Howe the Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week in a release by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon. The award marks the first time this season that Howe has been honored with a weekly track award. Howe was a two-time women's cross country Runner of the Week recipient. The freshman took first place in the five-kilometer race at the Texas Roadhouse Classic on Friday, setting a new personal best as she crossed the finish line with a time of 17:53.35, edging out Richmond's Kylee Schuler by less than two seconds. This was Howe's first collegiate track victory. "I'm very proud of Mackenzie," said head coach Don McGarey. "She has come a long way in just her first season. In the past few weeks she has built up a lot of confidence and she continues to improve from meet to meet." Howe's freshman year is quickly becoming loaded with top performances. During her first season with the cross country team Howe was awarded All- Freshman and All-Conference Honors. In two weeks Howe will lead the Owls in the 5k race at the Tiger Invitational at Clemson University. |
