THIBODAUX, La. -- Lamar led 4-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth but allowed seven runs in the final two innings, including a walk-off three-run homer by Corey Arceneaux as the Colonels upset the Cardinals 8-5 at Ray Didier Field Saturday afternoon.

Lamar (19-10, 9-2 SLC) saw its eight-game Southland Conference winning streak snapped and lost on a walk-off hit for the second time in three games this week. Nicholls State (6-23, 2-9) ended a seven-game losing skid.

Trailing 5-4 after the Colonels scored four in the eighth, Lamar left fielder David Moore hit his second home run of the game to tie it at 5-5 and one out. He entered the game as the only everyday player without a homer.

Ricky Testa (2-1) suffered the loss after getting two outs in the ninth before giving up the game-winning hit to Arceneaux on the first pitch.

Bryan Myers (1-1) got his first win of the year as he struck out eighth and allowed five runs on eight hits in 9.0 innings.

For the second-straight game, the Colonels scored first when they plated a single run in the third. Walter Jones was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a ground ball back to starting pitcher Matt Morgal and scored on a Keith Kulbeth single down the right field line.

Lamar tied the game in the fifth when David Moore led off with a solo home run down the left field line. It was his first of the season and made him the 11th different player to go deep this year.

The Cardinals took the lead an inning later thanks to three doubles in a four-batter stretch. Nik Gumeson started the stretch with a one-out rap to center. After an Anthony Moore popout, Gumeson scored when Brian Taylor doubled over the third baseman into left field. Steven Tucker followed with his team-leading ninth double of the year to drive in Taylor. Tucker scored the final run from third when David Moore got into a rundown for the last out, but not before Tucker crossed home to push the Cardinal lead to 4-1.

Nicholls broke through in the eighth when they loaded the bases on a pair of infield hits and a walk to chase Morgal from the game. Brian Needham threw a wild pitch to allow all three runners to move up 90 feet before a sac fly and single tied the game at 4-4. A Zac Bone walk loaded the bases again before Justin Walker relieved Needham and hit Walter Jones to drive in the go-ahead run as the Colonels went to the ninth with a 5-4 lead.

With one out in the ninth, Moore tied the game at 5-5 with his second long ball of the game - this one to right-center.

Morgal left the game with a 4-1 lead in the eighth after he scattered seven hits in 7.1 innings.

In addition to David Moore's two-hit, two-RBI game, Anthony Moore, Taylor, Tucker, Vickers and Gumeson tallied one hit apiece.

The teams will play the rubber game of their series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Didier Field.
