Lamar Takes Series from Nicholls State With 7-2 Sunday Win

April 6, 2008

Box Score

THIBODAUX, La. - Lamar pounded out 13 hits and starter Tim Erickson threw his first official complete game of the season as the Cardinals scored the final seven runs in a 7-2 series-clinching win over Nicholls State at Didier Field Sunday.

Erickson (4-0) remained perfect on the season and won his second-straight game as a starter. He struck out five and scattered six hits in leading the Lamar (20-10, 10-2 Southland) to its fourth-consecutive series win. Three weeks ago the senior lefty threw nine innings of relief in a win at UTA, while Sunday's effort was all him as he made his third start of the season. He is now 4-0 with a 0.83 ERA and six saves.

Chris Dunkin and Jeff Vickers each had three hits and David Moore hit his third home run in two days with a solo shot in the fifth that made it a 5-2 game.

Steven Tucker drove in the final two runs with a single in the eighth.

Nicholls State (6-24, 2-10) took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second. The Colonels plated both runs without hitting the ball out of the infield. A bunt single and a walk put runners on first and second before another bunt single scored the first run. Brett Hoeflich later scored on the second of three groundouts.

Lamar came right back and scored three in the third - all with two outs following a line-out to first when Tyler Link was doubled off by Brandt Boudreaux. A Colonel fielding error and RBI singles by Dunkin and Vickers gave the Cardinals the lead for good.

Lamar will conclude its second five-game road trip on Tuesday with a single game at Rice (23-10). First pitch at Reckling Park is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on lamarcardinals.com via KLVI 560-AM in the Beaumont area.
