Barrow, Mahoney Out For Remainder Of The Season
Feb. 18, 2008
Lamar men's basketball players Matthew Barrow and Shane Mahoney will not play for the Cardinals the remainder of the season head coach Steve Roccaforte announced on Monday. Barrow is a senior guard who was averaging 8.9 points over the first 20 games, which included ten starts. In the seven Southland Conference games prior to the injury, he was scoring 11.1 ppg. In three seasons, the Baton Rouge, La., native had tallied 750 points and made 116 3-point field goals. Mahoney played in all 28 games as a true freshman in 2006-07 and scored 26 points in 6.9 minutes per outing. The sophomore from Redondo Beach, Calif. has not played in any games this season. "Due to an injury sustained on Feb. 7 at Nicholls State, Matt is unable to play the remainder of the season," Roccaforte said. "Shane will redshirt this season and will be a sophomore next year with three years remaining." Lamar, 15-8 overall, currently leads the Southland Conference with a 9-1 mark and will host a pair of games at the Montagne Center during its Homecoming festivities this week. The Cardinals will face Central Arkansas on Thursday and Northwestern State on Saturday. Both games tip-off at 7:05 p.m. Thursday's game is being billed as a "White Out" game with all fans encouraged to wear white and Saturday's match-up with the Demons - who currently sit in second-place in the Southland's East Division behind Lamar - serving as the annual Homecoming tilt.
