Tracy Byrd To Sing National Anthem At Lamar-UCA Men's Basketball Game Thursday

Feb. 19, 2008

Country music star and local resident Tracy Byrd will sing the national anthem at Thursday's Lamar-Central Arkansas men's basketball game, university officials announced late Tuesday.

Byrd began playing nightclubs in Southeast Texas, including working with Mark Chesnutt. After Chesnutt secured a record deal, Byrd took over as the house band at Cutters Nightclub in Beaumont, landing his own record deal in 1992. His first three albums sold over 3 million copies.

Lamar is currently 15-8 overall and 9-1 in the Southland Conference. The Cardinals have won eight-consecutive games and 10-straight at home. Tip-off for both games is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Montagne Center. Thursday's match-up with UCA is also billed as a "White Out" game with all fans asked to wear white to the arena.
